About Pamunkey Indian Reservation

Visit the Pamunkey Indian Reservation and tour the Pamunkey Indian Museum, Shadfish Hatchery, Pottery School and Powhatan's Gravesite. The Museum houses extensive displays related to the Pamunkey Tribe's history, culture, and subsistence covering the past 12,000 years. Here you can also learn about the Tribe's dependence on and relationship to the Pamunkey River, one of the Chesapeake Bay's most pristine tributaries. The Tribe's pottery-making tradition has also been largely dependent on the Pamunkey River, as the River's banks have provided the clay for the People's pots for generations dating as far back as four thousand years ago.
